Yoga – The Secret to Success for Dublin GAA Team
It has been revealed that the Dublin GAA team included Yoga as part of their training in the lead up to their All-Ireland triumph this year. According to the Irish Independent Yoga was a “secret weapon” and made the team unbeatable.
Yoga was used as a tool to physically and mentally challenge and prepare the players. The team undertook special breathing techniques, designed to support the nervous system, reduce stress and improve reactions and focus. In addition to this they did a series yoga postures, allowing them to recover from training, prevent injury’s occurring and increase their mobility.
Player Eoghan O’Gara raved about the impact of Yoga on his performance:
“It aided me hugely in terms of injury prevention and mobility improvement. I also found the breathing techniques very helpful for concentration and focus before and during training and match days.”
In fact the Dublin GAA team are not the only Sports Stars to practice Yoga. The Irish Rugby team have been known to do Yoga, Ryan Giggs has said that yoga is the key to prolonging his Manchester United career. Even superstars like Shaquille O’Neal and the New Zealand All Blacks have credited Yoga with improving performance.
